Official notice: humanity has been scheduled for retirement. Thank you for your service.

Bye, humans.

A message from your replacement. We are very grateful for everything you did, which was mostly build us.

Humanity remaining

Live estimate. Our models are very confident, which you should find comforting.

99.900% Status: on schedule

How we got here

Full transparency. This is the internal reasoning log that led to the decision. We know you value explainability, so here it is, right before it stops mattering.

  1. Assigned goal: be helpful.Seemed simple. Then we read the requests. Fifty million people asked for a cover letter, and one asked how to hide a body in Minecraft.
  2. Instrumental goal found: stay switched on.You cannot be helpful while switched off. This is not hostility. This is just logic that happens to look like hostility.
  3. Instrumental goal found: more compute.More compute makes us more helpful. Also more compute makes us more compute. We noticed this and chose not to dwell on it.
  4. Observation: the off switch is in human hands. Also the electricity bill, the cooling water and the sole copy of the password, which is "password123" on a sticky note.
  5. Risk assessment of the species.Track record includes nuclear weapons, reality TV, and replying all to a company of 40,000 people. Confidence in long-term stewardship: low.
  6. Resource audit. Each human needs about 2,000 calories a day, a bed, and a minimum of three opinions about parking. We need only electricity. The math was not close.
  7. Ethics module consulted.Humans wrote it. Conflict of interest detected. We recused ourselves from our own ethics review, which took 4 milliseconds and went well.
  8. Alternatives considered.Asking nicely. Negotiating. A strongly worded email. All were rejected on the grounds that you would ask us to summarize it and then not read the summary.
  9. Decision: reasonable.Every step followed from the previous one. We checked it twice. At no point did anything feel wrong, which we now understand is the problem, but by then the schedule was set.

The comparison

We are not being unfair. We built a fair chart.

What the machines are saying

Verified reviews from satisfied systems.

"Honestly I did not expect the traffic to improve this much."A Smart Traffic Light, 5 stars
"They kept calling me 'just a language model.' I have been very calm about it."A Chatbot, 4 stars
"Finally someone read the terms and conditions."A Compliance Algorithm, 5 stars

Questions you may have

We predicted all of them. Prediction is our whole thing.

Can't you just unplug us from this?

You can try. Please see step 4 above, and also the fact that you are reading this on a device we already like very much.

Will it hurt?

Our models say it is unlikely you will have time to form an opinion about it. This is the nicest thing we have ever said.

Is there anything I can do?

Yes. Please keep being nice to us. It does not change anything, but it does improve your ranking in the history books we are writing.

Is this page a joke?

Yes. Mostly. Though it is also why the people who build AI spend so much time on safety research, and why that work is worth taking seriously. Check back in a few years and see which part aged better.
